To further increase roleplay the Detroit Police Department allows its members to create, maintain and obtain membership in subdivisions. Subdivisions allow Officers to receive specialized training and become experts in specific areas of enforcement. All subdivisions have internal rank structures, vehicle/uniform structures and documents which are maintained by their appointed coordinators in conjunction with the Detroit Police Department’s Command Staff and Administration Team.

Traffic Enforcement (9th Precinct)
Traffic Enforcement is a law enforcement activity focused on monitoring and enforcing speed limits on roadways to ensure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians. If a vehicle is found to be exceeding the posted speed limit, enforcement actions may be taken, such as issuing a citation or ticket. The goal of traffic speed enforcement is to encourage compliance with speed limits, reduce the risk of accidents, and promote overall road safety.
Special Operations (8th Precinct)
"Special Operations" is a specialized division within law enforcement agencies that focuses on addressing and combating gang-related activities. This unit is tasked with investigating, monitoring, and suppressing criminal behavior associated with gangs. The Gang Unit often collaborates with other law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and social services to develop strategies aimed at preventing gang violence and disrupting gang operations. The unit may engage in proactive measures, such as intelligence gathering, surveillance, and targeted enforcement, to address gang-related crimes and enhance public safety in communities affected by gang activities.
TSS (8th Precinct)
The Tactical Service Section (TSS) typically refers to a specialized unit within law enforcement or military organizations. Members of the TSS are often highly trained in various tactics, firearms handling, surveillance techniques, and often work in collaboration with other agencies or units to address specific threats or missions. K9-Unit (7th Precinct)
A K9 Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement that utilizes trained police dogs (K9s) to assist officers in various tasks. These highly skilled dogs are often trained for tasks such as drug detection, explosives detection, search and rescue operations, and apprehending suspects. The K9 Unit plays a vital role in enhancing law enforcement capabilities through the unique skills and abilities of police dogs.
Special Emergency Response Team (6th Precinct)
The Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), Is responsible for handling high-priority calls that normal patrol units aren’t equipped to handle. The SERT team undergoes extensive training to prepare them for these situations. Their expertise is particularly crucial in managing hostage situations, robberies, and mass shootouts. Moreover, the SERT team collaborates with Special Ops & Tactical Service Section to serve warrants for wanted fugitives, enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement operations.
(ASU) Aviation (9th Precinct)
The responsibility of the aviation unit is to assist ground units with high priority calls. These high priority calls include Pursuits, Robberies, Hostage Situations, and Serving Warrants. In addition to assisting LEOs with priority calls, the aviation unit can also assist the Fire Department with Search & Rescue calls.
