To further increase roleplay the Detroit Police Department allows its members to create, maintain and obtain membership in subdivisions. Subdivisions allow Officers to receive specialized training and become experts in specific areas of enforcement. All subdivisions have internal rank structures, vehicle/uniform structures and documents which are maintained by their appointed coordinators in conjunction with the Detroit Police Department’s Command Staff and Administration Team.

Special Operations (8th Precinct)

The Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), Is responsible for handling high-priority calls that normal patrol units aren’t equipped to handle. The SERT team undergoes extensive training to prepare them for these situations. Their expertise is particularly crucial in managing hostage situations, robberies, and mass shootouts. Moreover, the SERT team collaborates with Special Ops & Tactical Service Section to serve warrants for wanted fugitives, enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement operations.
(ASU) Aviation (9th Precinct)
The responsibility of the aviation unit is to assist ground units with high priority calls. These high priority calls include Pursuits, Robberies, Hostage Situations, and Serving Warrants. In addition to assisting LEOs with priority calls, the aviation unit can also assist the Fire Department with Search & Rescue calls.
